It's an issue everyone in our generation can empathise with - there are just never enough hours in the day. Whether you're a mum, a dad, a business owner, a doctor, a lawyer - there's just never enough time to deal with everything you have to do.
So how do you best cope?
It seems an unlikely place to look, but the election campaign is highlighting some great tips on time management (yes, really!). Just look where the politicians are spending most of their time...
- David Cameron is in Bolton today, talking to family businesses about the national insurance increase. Bolton West is a target seat for the Conservaties after just a 45% to 33% loss in the 2005 election.
- Nick Clegg is in Wavertree; a marginal seat they expect to win at this election, as they witnessed an 11% swing to Liberal Democrats in that last election and the labour MP is standing down this time.
- Gordon Brown has been quoted today as being worried about spending time away from his children; an equally powerful message.
But what can you learn from these actions, as a business owner?
- Spend your time in the most productive areas of your business. The politicians are spending time in the 'marginal' seats. The people who may vote for them and 'swing' the election in their favour. It's the same in business - you need to spend time with prospects who are in a position to buy your product or service and spend time on money-making activities.
- Promote yourself to the people most likely to buy. We heard on the BBC News this morning about 'Motorway Man' a new majority section of the political 'audience'. Again, this is a group of people who could vote either way. David Cameron is targeting 'the great ignored'. And, it's the same in business - who are your prime prospects? What kind of people are most likely to buy and which of those will make you the most profit for the time invested? Those are the people you should be marketing to.
