We tend to think it's a 'young people' thing, but social media is increasingly being used by more and more of your target customer base - so can you afford to ignore it?
Allegedly, the teenagers are leaving Facebook because there are too many 'old people' now using it. Whilst they were the early adopters, their parents have now started to harness the power of this social media tool - both for their personal and business lives.
And the same is true of Twitter - according to web monitoring company comScore, the average age of the 10 million people on Twitter is 35+. If you're targeting this age group, can you afford not to be using this marketing medium?
Just think about it... you can have your own newspaper, your own radio channel, your own TV channel, your own news pages and your own forums and columns - all for free, using the internet. And your target audience are probably using the net by now - regardless of age. Think about how you could be using it to promote and sell your services - but get advice before spending any money. Web design and search engine optimisation are the new realms of the 'double-glazing salesmen - so buyer beware!
